NOVA BOSSA hosts Paula Mendoza Collection Launch, November 18, 2017, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Luxury fashion start-up brings Colombian Paula Mendoza to DC for the unveiling of her SS18 jewelry collection.
NOVA BOSSA was created in February 2017 to introduce Washington, DC, to the best up-and-coming international brands with a focus on the creations of women designers. One of these women is the internationally renowned Colombian-born, New York-based designer Paula Mendoza. NOVA BOSSA will be presenting her latest collection this November at the OAS AMA | Art Museum of the Americas.
The SS18 Ianimi Collection is the representation of Paula’s contemplation of Colombia and her plight for sustainability – both social and environmental. It is inspired by the sacred symbols revered by the indigenous communities in the Colombian Amazon, who she learned about after staying with a Shaman and his family. The imagery presented ranges from the symbol of Mother Earth and femininity to the actual utilization of sound in several of the pieces representing the flow of water and divinity.
“With this collection, I’ve decided to become more vocal about how I create my jewelry, which respects the environment and the people who work with me. This is a brand that from its inception has always practiced sustainability as a way to not only give back to the skilled Colombian artisans who make these pieces by hand, but also to be responsible in our materials and production. To create jewelry with sustainable practices is not easy, but by respecting every process as well as the people that are part of it, one can create art with meaning,” reflects Paula on her inspiration.
“We are delighted to welcome Paula Mendoza and her stunning creations back to the city where she launched her US career” states Carolina Furukrona, Founder & CEO of NOVA BOSSA. “We want to show that South American design and artisanal products can be just as special as those emanating from Europe, and can provide a fresh, bold and modern update to the wardrobes of DC women.”
Part of the Organization of American States (OAS), the AMA | Art Museum of the Americas promotes the OAS’s core values of democracy, human rights, security and development with exhibitions that are visual reflections of these values, and provides a space for cultural expression, creativity and learning. AMA is the perfect setting to appreciate the beauty of Paula Mendoza’s 24-carat gold-plated jewelry. Visit the museum, meet Paula Mendoza and experience her SS18 collection on November 18, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
